Bytown Ski Club has secured a quality hotel in the centre of iconic Zermatt Switzerland that will allow you the rare pleasure of staying and skiing in Switzerland at a phenomenal value package. Your package includes the all-inclusive internationally connected lift system of Zermatt Switzerland and Cervinia Italy. Our hotel is a short walk to both the Bahnhof (train station) and the Gornergrat lift, one of the main lifts of Zermatt. As you likely know, Zermatt is home to the famous and breathtaking Matterhorn as well as a glacier ski area. After breakfast on Saturday departure day from Zermatt, we go to a Geneva hotel that will allow us to taste another European city in the afternoon and evening before departure home on Sunday.
Based on the popularity of these ski vacations in previous years, early registration is recommended to secure one of the limited hotel spots!
Touringhouse Travel has return air spaces reserved on Swiss Air from Montreal’s Dorval Airport to Geneva Switzerland via Zurich. We will provide private group return coach transfers between Ottawa's VIA train station and Montreal Dorval Airport. From Geneva Airport to the vehicle free village of Zermatt, we have a deluxe private coach for our group’s approximate 3+ hour transfer on a scenic ride through Switzerland to the village of Tasch where we then take a short shuttle-train into Zermatt.
Your Derby Hotel is located on fashionable Bahnhofstrasse in the village centre only 50 meters from the Bahnhof (train station), and is also a short walking distance from one of the resort’s principal lifts, the Gornergrat Gondola and close to a second main Zermatt lift, the Sunnegga cable car. The Derby restaurant features a terrace and serves Italian and international cuisine, as well as flambe dishes. We will have buffet breakfasts and four course dinners each day of our stay at the Derby. Many of the hotel rooms have balconies, some of which you can watch the sun rise over the Matterhorn each morning!
The ski pass in your package is the International 6-day pass that allows you to use all the 51 lifts on both the Swiss and the interconnected Italian side of the resort. Please note that the IKON pass is not accepted on the Italian side of the mountain range. The combination of high altitude, northerly aspect and glaciers guaranty quality snow conditions. The terrain includes 75 kilometers of beginner slopes, 220 kilometers of intermediate, and 27 kilometers of advanced. Zermatt ski resort, also known as Matterhorn Ski Paradise, boasts the highest piste in Europe at 3,899 meters (12,792 feet).
Non-ski activities include walking the fashionable Bahnhofstrasse in a fur coat and little dog (if you can borrow one!), there is wonderful paragliding, helicopter sightseeing flights around the Matterhorn, cross country skiing, scenic winter walking trails & an evening toboggan run that can be coupled with a fondue dinner. A cable car trip up to the top of the Klein Matterhorn is also popular to explore the ice museum glacial caves.
Unlike most European ski weeklong ski trips where it is necessary to rise early to board your transportation back to your gateway airport for an early day flight departure back to Canada, on this trip we have elected for a more civilized departure after breakfast on our Saturday check out day, and travel back to a Geneva hotel where we will overnight until an early afternoon flight Sunday departure to Canada. This itinerary will provide an opportunity for people wishing to experience a touch of Europe beyond the mountains, experience beautiful Geneva with a Saturday afternoon beside the lake, or some old town shopping, and then have dinner (possibly a Swiss fondue restaurant!) in this cosmopolitan Swiss city.
