Depart on your overnight flight to Athens.
Arrival in Athens and transfer to your hotel.
Your half day guided sightseeing tour of Athens will include the Olympic Stadium, the Temple of Zeus, the ancient Roman ruins and the Acropolis. In the afternoon, we recommend a visit to the National Archaeological Museum
Depart on a journey west travelling through rugged mountain scenery to Delphi. The guided walking tour of the site will include the Oracle, the sanctuary of Apollo, the Stadium and the Archaeological Museum. In antiquity, Delphi was one of the most important religious centers, attracting pilgrims who came to consult the Oracle. Even now, an aura of mystery invests the sparse ruins. Overnight will be at your hotel in Delphi.
After breakfast, depart on a full day excursion to Argolis, including the theater of Epidaurus, famous for its acoustics and the ruins of Mycenae, dating back to the 2nd millennium B.C. According to legend, Mycenae was founded by Perseus, son of Zeus and Danae, who raised the city walls with the help of the Cyclops, giant builders who had one eye in the middle of their forehead. Overnight will be in Nauplia.
After breakfast, depart for Athens. There will be a stop at the Corinth Canal for pictures. The afternoon is to explore Athens with your teachers. In the evening, board the overnight ferry to Crete.
On arrival in Crete, you will enjoy a half day guided tour of Heraklion, the capital of Crete, and the ruins of the palace of Knossos, which was excavated and partially reconstructed by the British Archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans. In the afternoon, visit the ruins of the huge Minoan city of Malia. The site ceased to be inhabited at the end of the second millennium BC and is not cluttered with traces of later construction.
Full day excursion to the Minoan Palace of Phaistos, which stands on an outlying spur of Mount Ida. The palace was founded by Rhadamanthos. Your visit of the site will include the Theater and the Royal Apartments. After the tour, take the overnight ferry to Athens.
After disembarkation, you will be taken on a half day tour to Cape Sounion to visit the Sanctuary of Poseidon. The afternoon is to explore Athens with your teachers and to do your last minute souvenir shopping.
Return to Canada.
